The Syrian Postal Corporation, also known as Syrian Post, announced Thursday the resumption of international parcel shipments from Syria to countries worldwide through the Universal Postal Union (UPU) network, after a prolonged suspension.
The Syrian news agency SANA cited the corporation’s head, Imad al-Din Hamad, who said the service went into operation Thursday, reconnecting Syria’s postal system with the international postal network.
“The resumption of outbound parcel shipments followed the success of the first phase, which involved restoring the receipt of international parcels sent to Syria from countries around the world,” said Hamad.
The incoming parcel service operates through the postal exchange office at Damascus International Airport, which serves as the main link between the Syrian Postal Corporation and foreign postal networks.
“The move ends a prolonged period in which the postal service was absent from connecting Syria with the world and restores the corporation’s role as an official channel linking citizens and economic sectors with countries abroad,” said Hamad. “The service would be provided according to international standards and at competitive prices, allowing parcels to be sent and received through official postal channels.”
“The corporation’s centers and branches across the provinces, along with the international exchange center at Damascus International Airport, are ready to handle both outgoing and incoming shipments and parcels,” he added.
The Syrian Postal Corporation announced in June that it would reactivate the receipt of international postal parcels beginning July 1 through the postal exchange office at Damascus International Airport.
With the resumption of outbound shipments Thursday, international parcel services through the corporation are now available in both directions, from abroad to Syria and from Syria to countries worldwide.
